“I have always had a joy in cultivating the creative interests of children and adults. Fostering the creative arts is such an integral part of a vibrant and healthy community”- R. Calkins
Hi I’m Rose Calkins! I am an Art Educator, and Certified Teacher who teaches “The Elements of Arts” Class at NAL to children ages 6 through 12! This class takes a fun and experiential approach, where students are introduced to the elements of art: line, shape, color, texture, form, space and value.
Student Artists are involved in a hands-on art immersion using a variety of mediums to explore creative expression, leading to personal artistic discoveries.
This summer, I created and taught the Kid’s College Summer Art Program at ECC. I have created Artist in Residence Programs in CCSD 93. I was Chairperson for our PTA Kindergarten Arts Program for a number of years, and taught art to kindergarteners. I taught art to ages 2 to 6 through an independent arts program that ran their classes through the Naperville Art League, Winfield Park District, and DuPage Art League. I created an arts program and taught art for grades K through 12 at Life Christian Co-School in Batavia. I was a founding member of the Carol Stream Arts, and created successful classes, and programs.
I currently work in mixed- media, acrylics, and chalk. I have taken on-going art classes through the years, as well as being self-taught. My work has been in different art galleries and shows throughout the Chicagoland area and suburbs - Burning Bush Art Gallery - Wheaton; Lively Arts Art Show- Wheaton; Karitos Arts; Any-Squared Art Gallery- Logan Square; The Maker’s Space Art Show- Glen Ellyn; The DuPage Art League, Naperville Art League, Glen Ellyn Library, and Carol Stream Library.
