Professionally, I am an architect. I used my artistic skills and creativity while attaining my degree, but while pursuing other interests and other things throughout my life, art has been a constant. I have never, not created art. It has only been the last few years that I have focused more of my time to creating art.
I am self-taught and my methods and materials are a result of trial and error. Find an interesting pen, purchase a pretty piece of paper, notice a particular brand of colored pencil blends better than another. I work primarily with ink and colored pencil on primed Masonite.
I currently live in Downers Grove, Illinois, but I was raised in northern Wisconsin. I only mention where I grew up because the landscape had a profound influence on my art. As a kid, I spent a lot of time outdoors playing in the woods, picking wildflowers and riding my bike out in the countryside. I try to capture the child’s vision of that wild, northern, wooded landscape with a playful whimsy.
My trees are full of intricate patterns that are interrupted and broken apart. I like to include a sense of humor, bold colors and a lot of little details that are easy to overlook at first glance. I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy creating it.
