Artistic expression is my life blood. I'm inspired by abstract and expressionist artist like Piet Mondrian and Paul Klee. I got my start in photography and graphic arts, and I moved into a long career that involved nurturing other artists who inspired my love of music, stories, word play and visual arts. So, I set out to find a new medium for myself. Something that was more tactile than computer and camera art. Something hands-on. Something spontaneous, daring, heretofore unknown. Felt making is an entangling of wool fibers with silk, paper, flax, cotton, sparkles -- even wood and stone -- to create an integrated fabric.
My felt canvas may take the form of a scarf or a canvas. Or a vase, a bag, or other sculptured form. My work is informed by deep knowledge of fiber mediums, yet there is an element of surprise in every creation. I am intrigued by color and design. And I'm still deeply moved by others who use music and words. Coming full circle, my tactile, visual, fiber art works are often inspired and informed by the songs and poetry in this music that I love.
