Mahabat Samanchieva
Mahabat Samanchieva is an ethno designer who transforms ancestral Kyrgyz craftsmanship into contemporary wearable art. She works with living natural materials—Kyrgyz felt, mulberry silk, and plant-based pigments—to create pieces that breathe, adapt, and interact with the body. Her signature Nuno Felt technique fuses felt and silk into a biocompatible fabric known for its natural thermoregulation, tactile depth, and unmistakable “alive” quality.
Mahabat’s dyeing process relies solely on botanicals—pomegranate, walnut shells, teas, onion peels—preserving the natural character, warmth, and vitality of each piece. Her designs merge tradition, material science, and modern aesthetics, resulting in garments that feel protective, grounding, and quietly luxurious.
This felt-silk jacket is created using a unique combination of materials: Kyrgyz felt and the finest silk, combined using the Nuno Felt technique. This structure creates a biocompatible fabric with natural thermoregulation, high breathability, and gentle adaptation to body temperature.
Kyrgyz felt is a phenomenal material with a living microstructure. It is considered "energetically active" due to its natural content of lanolin, keratin, and micro-aerodynamic chambers, which create an ambient effect and a comfortable microclimate. It not only retains heat but also gently regulates humidity, maintaining a feeling of natural balance. And most importantly, there is no other material comparable to Kyrgyz felt in terms of density, consistency, and "lively" tactility.
The dyeing is done with natural phyto pigments, polyphenols, tannins, and antioxidants. Onion peel (quercetin), pomegranate peel (ellagitannins), walnut shell (juglone), and black and green tea extracts form a complex spectrum of properties. These ingredients not only create long-lasting, multi-layered color but also preserve the biologically active properties of plants traditionally associated with a cleansing and soothing effect.
The jacket cools like a "living" object—it literally interacts with the body, reacts to heat, and creates a feeling of soft protection and inner calm. It's a combination of computer science, energy supply, materials, and high fashion.
