Portrait Drawing Open Studio

Instructor; Sally Sharp

Tuesdays(not 1st Tues. in month)6:00pm –9:00pm

Fee: $12/session                                    Ages 16 and up

Artists of all skill levels are welcome to join in our noninstructed, live model, open studio portrait sessions.  Bring your own art materials.  You may use any medium you like.  Tables and easels are available. There will typically be one long pose per session.  One model will be provided, or we will use volunteers from class.  If you volunteer to model one session, your next session will be free.  Models will be clothed.  Artists of all ages can participate .  There is an optional review and discussion at the end of each session.

Open Studio

Wednesdays                              6:30—9:00 pm

Register with the Naperville Art League

Fee: $5 per session / $40 for 10 classes — $30 for NAL members

Work on your own project in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy the flexibility of the open studio. Join the session when it fits your schedule. Receive inspiration from classmates that share your passion. Bring your art, your supplies & your creativity!

Figure Drawing

Come draw with us! Artists of all skill levels are welcome to join our non-instructed, live model, open studio figure drawing sessions. Please bring your own art materials. Tables and easels are available. We start with short poses and work our way to progressively longer poses throughout the session. There is an optional review and discussion at the end of each class. One model will be provided per session, male or female, according to model availability. Students must be at least 18 years old and able to provide valid ID. Your name and address will be required. Models will be nude.

Digital Artistry – Computer Art

Have you always wanted to be the next pixar? Are you tired of expensive software keeping you from your dreams? Come learn about free software and use it to power your artistic vision.  This is a hands on instructional course that will explore may different aspects of digital artistry, whether it’s 2D, 3D, or animation.  I will take you through short projects that you can follow along building the skills to create larger and more complex pieces.  Questions and discussions are encouraged.  Software will be provided.  Please bring you own laptop.  This class is for all ages although basic computer skill will be needed.  Each class is different – sign up for the dates that work for you and skip when you must.

Beginning Watercolor

Artist Carmelo Schifano takes the fear out of watercolor as he invites his students to relax and get loose. Participants will learn the basic technique and take home completed works. Helpful critiques will ensure that class members get the most out of their lessons.

Intermediate Watercolor

Create your own compositions using your own photo references. Develop simple concept sketches coupled with value studies. Find how the principles and elements of design greatly affect your final outcome. Metal Crochet Workshop

Create a beautiful beaded crochet pendant, bracelet, necklace or pair of earrings using wire colors and beads – a stunning addition to any wardrobe and a great way to put an amazing technique to use! No experience in wire crochet required. A $20 supply kit fee will be collected in class.

For the absolute beginner who thinks they might like to give art a try.  No judgement just exploration and fun in a supportive atmosphere. Acrylic, watercolor, pastel and drawing are some of the mediums we’ll use. Students receive tips and techniques to boost confidence and success along with step by step direction. Glass Painting

Learn how to make really cool painted glasses!!!  This class will show you the template AND free-hand methods to paint gorgeous glasses.  Your instructor will show you all of the techniques, tips and tricks that will make this medium one of your new favorites once you discover how easy and fun it is!  Students should bring at least two clean glasses, such as wine glasses, beer pint glasses, stemless ware, or even vases! Students may bring in as many glasses as they think they can finish in two hours.  Most students complete two glasses. All other materials such as paint, aprons, etc are supplied by the instructor.

One-Stroke Painting for Beginners

Three 2-hour painting classes will build skills and techniques madefamous by Donna Dewberry. Proper brush loading will be taught,which is the key to success with one-stroke. You will learn a variety of leaves and flowers using this fun technique, which gives shadingand highlighting effects with one stroke of the brush! All supplies willbe furnished for $25, payable to the instructor at the first class.

Fiber and Fabric:  Sewing for Expression

Have you always loved fabric and fibers but when someone says “sewing” you begin to stress out? This class is designed for the beginner or experienced fiber artist who wants to learn expressive, simple embellishment techniques such as embroidery, applique, cut-away, and other textile/fiber applications to add to your wardrobe or fiber art piece. Both machine and traditional processes will be explored through small projects to see where the thread leads you!

Wood Signs

Love those monogram wood signs?Want to create your very own seasonal sign?  Learn how to stencil your own custom wood sign using a vast array of stencils and templates.  Your instructor will teach you how to create crisp, even stenciling, as well as how to incorporate modge podge and painting into your signs! This is a three-in- one class! All materials provided by instructor, which includes, one 12inch x 16inch wood sign, paint, stencils, templates, aprons,etc.

Pour Your Art Out!

Sub-Urban Watercolor Sketching!

Let’s take our pens and paints outside. This is a fresh, energetic approach to loose watercolor painting. It’s simple and fun – a habit you can enjoy on vacation or at the coffee shop.  We’ll meet around town and enjoy our time together. You’ll learn to be creative and confident as you sketch and paint quick, loose, and colorfully. We’ll review color theory, wet in wet, luminosity and more.
