Stacy Bowie is an artist who specializes in music-inspired paintings.

Artist Statement:

Music 2 Art is my exploration of texture, color and movement in response to music transforming the audio into the visual. When I hear music I begin to visualize colors, images even brushstrokes. I let my mind take me on a creative journey while listening to a song numerous times until the painting is complete. It is similar to watching a favorite movie again you’ll notice things that you didn’t see the first time.

Performance painting or painting live to music is a different but no less invigorating experience than working in the studio. What is often reflected in the finished piece of artwork is the compilation of songs with hints of stimuli from my surroundings during the performance.

Bio:

In 2006 Stacy Bowie, a self-taught artist, revealed Music set 2 Art (renamed Music 2 Art) in a solo exhibit
at Little Black Pearl in Chicago's Hyde Park area. The exhibit highlighted her passion for interpreting songs onto the canvas and featured the "translations" of songs of both established and emerging recording artists such as Seal, Jill Scott, Carlos Santana, Corinne Bailey Rae, Monday Michiru and others. The result is an eclectic collection of paintings each as diverse as the songs and the vocal artists they represent. Recent works have been inspired by singers Adele, Nyee Moses and John Legend and Maroon 5.

Stacy has brought the studio to audiences by painting live to music. Accompanied by violinist, Edith Yokley Stacy recently performed at The Mayne Stage as the opening act for The Dinner Party, a web-based show from the creator of Fear No Art Chicago. She has performed alongside saxophonist Skinny Williams; violinist,
Lee England, Jr. and with emerging singer, Kenya at Third Friday Gallery in Oak Park, Illinois.
