Artist’s Statement:

I’ve always had a keen interest in fibers but it wasn’t until recently that I learned that I could create fine art with wool. Working in watercolors and colored pencils has given me the background to express myself similarly in fiber. My palette is a large basket of colored wool roving from various sheep breeds. My canvas is a wool pre-felt or, for some of the smaller pieces, a felted sweater. The wool is pressed into the pre-felt using a needle felting tool. As with paint or pencils, there are different techniques used in placing the fibers that give a variety of results. One will not find many instructional resources on the art of needle felting so the learning process for me evolved through much experimentation.
