Sangita Kasturi is a Naperville, IL resident and works in acrylics, watercolor, pen and ink, pencil and pastels. She lives in Naperville with her husband, Curt, daughter, Anjali and two dogs, Lulu and Cousteau.
When I watch my toddler girl wield a brush with considerable
skill, I remember my own childhood in a family of artists and art lovers on one
hand, and scientists, engineers and academics on the other.
Sadly, the science side won out when it came time to make decisions about
college. Although I studied engineering and led a successful engineering career,
I fantasized about walking around in paint-stained jeans with shades of sienna
and burnt umber stuck under my finger nails. OK, I did manage to dabble a little
back then, while analyzing by day what the best approach to optimizing a new
process might be.
All that changed when I met and married my poet, friend and lover, Curt.
Somehow, his presence had made me reach for my brushes once again. I hope that I
will never put them down again.
