Sheri Lee Butler
Passion has no boundaries. It can be explosive and self-destructive, but its creation lives on. Nothing else matters.

The works displayed here are the artist’s attempt to create something different that no one else has explored. The human figure is used as icon. Grace, beauty and lyricism are incorporated into the visual aesthete. However the intent of painter and purpose for viewer is to use art to further knowledge: As knowledge is beauty.

Color is often used to conjure emotion, action, state of being and message. Texture is incorporated to visually stimulate opposing flat and solid areas. Additionally, texture can also support energy and emotional excitement against a more serene sensibility in the paintings. Themes of the works generally offer some historical aspect of humanity and the natural world invoking human philosophies, sciences and spiritual beliefs worldwide and drawing strongly upon poetic influence. Further boundaries expand with the universe and also set humanity aside to see ourselves as not the center but integral part of a wider and equal existence. To attempt seeing ourselves through different unbiased eyes and thus gain some greater wisdom and compassion. As apparent in the works, all sign of cultural influence is hidden as much as possible by portraying individuals in their natural form with little scenic support. Titles are significant and serve as guide to areas of contemplation.

It is the artist’s hope that she approaches this endeavor with paintings that are visually stimulating, exciting and that stir such passion for their beauty by the viewer in addition to intellectual exercise.

These paintings must speak for themselves even if translated through this artist’s humble ability. Undoubtedly there is an intended feminine expression and undeniable feminine bias. Though not the essence of truth, these paintings are another voice seeking. Communication about the artist’s works are welcome.
