"inspiring passion in the arts "
The Gallery
Since
its inception in 1961, the Naperville Art League has provided support for local
emerging and established artists. The Naperville Fine Art Center and Gallery, supported by the Art League,
provides a place for artists to gather together, exhibit their original work and
share their talents with the community. The Gallery is a place where both
artists and the community come to learn, understand and appreciate art. The
Gallery is open to the public and features
classes
for adults and children, workshops, demonstrations and regular
exhibits.

The winners of the Naperville Art League's 7th annual public art competition were announced at a reception held at the Naperville Fine Art Center and Gallery on Sunday, March 20, 2011. The exhibit, entitled "Shattered," caught the attention of regional artists who were invited to submit work reflective of the theme. Forty-five entries were on display and considered for awards and encompassed original work in a variety of media created by artists of all ages.
Judged by: Lisle instructor, Venessa Hardy served a judge for this competition. She had the difficult decision of selecting winners out of the 45 entries. Prizes were awarded to seven individual winners:

Bill Balkan, "Emotional Turmoil," Mixed Media

Gary Brown, ". . . .But the Lord Can," Wood & Metal
Heather Wryer, "Living, the Hive Life," Photography
"I was very impressed with the quality of artwork we received for our
"Shattered" competition. Even more amazing is the depth of intimacy that the
pieces exude." As a requirement of the competition, each artist was asked to
include a statement, explaining why the piece fits the theme. These
statements are then displayed, thus giving the viewer a deeper understanding
of the artist's intention. "Personal issues such as self perception,
spirituality, failed romance, suicide and rape fill the gallery. You can
feel the passion surround you and it becomes an emotional experience."
